Brisbane - Roma
Sit back and relax as we set out on this adventure and let outback Queensland come alive. Travel via Toowoomba before arriving at the Historical Village in Miles where lunch will be waiting for you. Memories of yesteryear are sure to flood back as you stroll around the grounds of this very well kept complex. Resume your journey on to Roma where we will stay overnight.
Roma - Quilpie
Visit Roma's clay Bicentennial Mural depicting the famous Harry Redford Cattle Duffing. Pass through Mitchell - the gateway to the outback, Charleville and Cooladdi before arriving into boulder opal country, for our overnight stay in Quilpie.
Quilpie - Birdsville
Today we travel to Windorah, located in the heart of the Channel Country, before joining the Birdsville Developmental Road. This afternoon, arrive in Birdsville, situated on the banks of the Diamantina River. The Birdsville Hotel is an Australian icon, built in 1884 and rich in history. Enjoy a drink in this famous pub, a true destination in itself, before checking into your airconditioned, ensuited room.
Birdsville - Big Red
This morning we will spend some time exploring Birdsville. See the iconic Birdsville Race Track as well as the Power Station and Birdsville Cemetery. Enjoy lunch at the Birdsville Hotel before taking time to wander this small outback town at your leisure. Conditions permitting, we will also visit 'Big Red' this afternoon. Return to Birdsville for dinner.
Birdsville - Boulia
Travel today to Bedourie, in the heart of the Diamantina area. Continuing north on the Eyre Developmental Road, we will reach Boulia for our overnight stay.
Boulia - Winton
Visiting the Min Min Encounter Centre and Stone Cottage brings Boulia to life. With a population of approximately 300 in town, visitors to the area are very important. Enjoy lunch before travelling the Kennedy Development Road to Winton where we will settle in for the next two nights.
Winton - The Jump Up & Lark Quarry
Travel out to The Jump Up - home of The Australian Age of Dinosaurs. Take a guided tour through the museum and laboratory to view dinosaur fossil collections on display. After morning tea, set out (weather and road conditions permitting) for a visit to Lark Quarry. Enjoy a picnic lunch and informative guided tour, hearing how this site is home to The Dinosaur Stampede National Monument and is considered to be the site of the world's only known record of a dinosaur stampede.
Winton - Barcaldine
Before farewelling Winton, visit the only museum in the world dedicated to a song. Not just any song, but a song that resonates in our hearts as Australians. The Waltzing Matilda Centre is a state of the art museum facility, that tells the story of Winton, the Outback and the song Waltzing Matilda. Our journey continues to Ilfracombe, where we will pass an amazing line up of historic machinery, before enjoying lunch at the Wellshot Hotel. Travel to Barcaldine for a visit to the Australian Workers Heritage Centre, the National monument to our working men and women, before stopping at the Tree Of Knowledge. Late afternoon, settle into our overnight accommodation.
Barcaldine - Emerald
Pause for morning tea in Alpha, the "Town of Murals". Enjoy a guided town tour and hear the story of these colourful murals which were painted after the devastating flood in the 1990's. Continue on to Emerald, a thriving Rural Service Centre of Queensland's Central Tablelands, for lunch before a visit to the Central Highlands Visitor Information Centre. In the parklands nearby, see the world's biggest Van Gogh 'Sunflower' painting and wander The Emerald Botanic Gardens; a tropical paradise. Situated on the banks of the Nogoa River and covering an area of 42 hectares, the gardens provide visitors with an opportunity to gain further insight into the region's natural environments. The gardens were established in 1987 and are home to 12 different themed plant communities, most representing plant species that are native to the region.
Emerald - Mundubberra
This morning we will traverse the Capricorn Highway before joining the Leichardt Highway. Our journey today will travel through some highly productive Coal Mining Areas of Queensland's Central Highlands. Enjoy a catered lunch in Biloela, before continuing on to Monto to view the Water Tank, Street Art and Silo Art that has brought many tourists into the area. This afternoon, arrive in Mundubbera for our overnight stay.
Mundubbera - Brisbane
Farewell Mundubbera as we travel the Burnett Highway to Wondai. Visit the South Burnett Region Timbers Industry Museum, showcasing the history of the South Burnett's timber industry, which underpinned the early settlement of the region and has continued to play an important part in its development. Stop off in Kingaroy for a visit to the Kingaroy Peanut Van, which has been a part of Kingaroy's landscape for over 50 years. After lunch, we will make our way back to Brisbane where your transfers will be arranged.
