Day 1

Home – Gunnedah
Our Queensland travellers will begin with a flight to Newcastle before joining our New South Wales passengers for lunch. This afternoon we will make our way via the Breeza Plains to Gunnedah for our overnight stay.

L, D

Day 2

Gunnedah - Roma
Travel through Moree on your way to Mungindi, on the border of New South Wales and Queensland, where you can stand in two states at once. Enjoy lunch by the river in St George and take some photos of the stately bottle trees lining the streets of Roma, a memorial to soldiers of the town.

B, L, D

Day 3

Roma - Quilpie
Visit Roma's clay Bicentennial Mural depicting the famous Harry Redford Cattle Duffing. Pass through Mitchell, the gateway to the outback and sing along to Slim Dusty's song 'Charleville' along the way. Keep your eye out for the precious gems that tell you that you're in boulder opal country, Quilpie.

B, L, D

Day 4

Quilpie - Birdsville
Birdsville is a small outback town on the banks of the Diamantina River between the sands of the Simpson Desert and the gibbers of Sturt's Stony Desert. The Birdsville Hotel is an Australian icon, built in 1884 and rich in history. Enjoy a drink in this famous pub, a true destination in itself before checking into our air conditioned ensuite rooms.

B, L, D

Day 5

This morning, explore the town at your leisure, including the famous Birdsville Race Track. At the Birdsville Bakery, be adventurous and perhaps purchase a camel pie for lunch. This afternoon, challenge yourself to climb Nappamerri, known as 'Big Red'. This sand dune rises 90m above sea level and 35m above the surrounding plains. It is believed to be the highest dune in the desert, where a slow walk up will ensure you appreciate its mammoth height!

B, D

Day 6

Birdsville - Marree
Travel along the Birdsville Track into some of Australia's most remote country. Stopping for lunch at Mungerannie Hotel, have your photo taken in one of the original Tom Kruse mail trucks; this oasis was once a supply point for drovers travelling north to Queensland. This afternoon tour Marree, founded on a series of artesian springs by farmers in the 1870s. Afghan camel drivers also made it their home, and many of their descendants still live here today.
