Day 1 L, D

Home - Newcastle - Dubbo
Meet up with your fellow travellers over a late morning tea. Our journey then takes us along the Golden Highway, stopping for lunch along the way. Continue via Merriwa, on the edge of the black soil plains, with a late arrival into Dubbo.

Day 2 B, L, D

Dubbo - Broken Hill
After breakfast, our journey takes us via Nyngan and then on to Cobar for lunch. This afternoon, continue along the Barrier Highway, stopping at McCulloch’s Range, before reaching Wilcannia. Arrive in Broken Hill, so close to the South Australian border, that the town operates on Central Standard Time. Our motel for the next 4 nights is just behind the city’s main street.

Day 3 B, L, D

Broken Hill - Guided Tour, RFDS and Living Desert Sculpture Symposium
Begin today with a locally guided tour, starting at the point of Australia’s only land assault during World War I. Tour the Royal Flying Doctors Service Visitors Centre and museum. This working base shows the crucial role that the RFDS plays for people living in rural and remote communities. This afternoon, experience the unique sculpture symposium, situated high above the living desert, on the fringe of the town. The sun setting on the plains with the glow of the city in the background is a sight to remember.

Day 4 B, L, D

Broken Hill and Silverton Legends
Our day starts with a visit to the galleries of Pro Hartand Jack Absalom - two artists who have helped paint Broken Hill into history. Enjoy lunch at a local café before continuing further west to Silverton. Explore Silverton Gaol, the Mining Museum and the Old School House of Mary Jane Gilmore. See one of Broken Hill’s original and unsuccessful water storage facilities, Umberumberka Reservoir, which silted up shortly after construction. This afternoon, view the sun setting from Mundi Mundi Lookout, where 'Mad Max 2' was filmed. Enjoy dinner in the Silverton Hotel, where the walls are adorned with memorabilia of movies made here such as ‘A Town like Alice’, ‘Razorback’, and ‘Dirty Deeds’.

Day 5 B, D

Exploring Broken Hill and Galleries
Today offers the opportunity to explore Broken Hill. Enjoy a relaxed morning wandering the main street, with its signs showing the history of key buildings. Browse the shops and purchase your own lunch. This afternoon visit the Broken Hill Regional Gallery and the Silver City Mint, including the chocolate factory and the Albert Kersten Mining and Minerals Museum - a must do! The final stop for the day is at the Line of Lode, which overlooks the city from the overburden dumps of the old mines. Take in spectacular views at this very symbolic site which is a memorial to the 800 or more miners who lost their lives here.

Day 6 B, D

Broken Hill to The Blue Mountains Rail Experience
An early start for breakfast today before joining the Countrylink Explorer for your rail journey to Sydney. Travel through some remarkable western New South Wales towns and landscapes before climbing the Sandstone Curtain to Katoomba. Day 7 B, L

Blue Mountains - Sydney - Home
This morning, take in the views from Govett's Leap Lookout, a popular place to view the spectacular panorama of the Blue Mountains.
