Day 1

Sydney – Inverell
Departing from Sydney and the Hunter, we’ll travel via Tamworth through to the sapphire district of Inverell. Nestled in a picturesque valley beside the Macintyre River, Inverell will be our
overnight stop.

L, D

Day 2

Inverell – Goondiwindi – Chinchilla
Reaching the edge of broad acre farming country, we travel inland towards the beef town of Goondiwindi on the New South Wales and Queensland border. See the statue of the mighty
‘Goondiwindi Grey’ Gunsynd, and learn more of one of the greatest and most loved race horses at the historic Victoria Hotel by joining their fun ‘Beer and Bull’ guided tour, concluding with lunch and a drink on the verandah. Travel north to the oil and gas town of Moonie, before reaching Chinchilla, where we unpack for three nights.

B, L, D

Day 3

Chinchilla Folk Museum and Rodeo
Chinchilla produces 25% of Australia’s melons and today a farm tour will give us some inside tips on how to grow the best melons. A town tour will provide some insight into how the nonmelon growers prosper in the community. At the Chinchilla Folk Museum, dedicated to the history of transportation, see working steam engines, a rare three cycle cylinder engine and extensive displays of dairy equipment. Tonight enjoy the excitement of the Rodeo, with bulls, broncos, saddleback and barrel racing in a big night of country entertainment. Dinner tonight is at your own expense.

B, L

Day 4

Melon Festival Day
Today is non-stop melon action all day. With over 20 tonnes of watermelon smashed, eaten and celebrated in 2017, prepare yourself for a juicy 2019. There will be markets, arts and crafts, street music and displays of melon-eating skill. Some serious and hilarious highlights include: street procession and floats; pip spitting contest heats; melon skiing and melon bungy; melon tossing; melon smashing; melon eating competition and an afternoon of country music and a brilliant fireworks display to end a fantastic and fun filled day.

B

Day 5

Chinchilla – Tenterfield
Heading south east we stop at the Jondaryan Woolshed for an authentic Aussie outback morning tea, tour of the historic shed as well as the Museum of Queensland Agriculture. Lunch today is in the township of Nobby at Rudd’s Pub, established in 1893 and made famous by Steele Rudd, author of the radio classic 'Dad & Dave'. Later, continue on to Tenterfield for our overnight stay.

B, L, D

Day 6

Tenterfield – Walcha
This morning we’ll discover Bald Rock near Tenterfield, the largest exposed granite rock formation in the southern hemisphere, rising to 1277m above sea level and towering about 200m above the surrounding bushland. Before leaving Tenterfield, we’ll visit the School of Arts Building for a guided tour, before heading to Glen Innes where we will visit the Standing Stones on
the outskirts of town. This afternoon we continue on to Armidale, stopping for a photo at the quaint Anglican Church at Gostwyck. Tonight’s overnight stay is in Walcha.

B, L, D

Day 7

Walcha – Home
Our final journey will take us down the picturesque Thunderbolt’s Way, with views over the Giro Valley below. Continuing over the Great Dividing Range we join the Bucketts Way on our way back to the Hunter, Central Coast and SYD Sydney.
