4 Nights Furneaux Tavern

Day 2 B, L, D

Flinders Island, Whitemark, Emita, Wildlife Sanctuary
Enjoy breakfast each morning in the dining room soaking up the magnificent views of Adelaide Bay. We then take in the views of Franklin Sound, its islands, and the mountains on both Flinders Island and Cape Barren Island from Vinegar Hill Lookout. In Whitemark, the commercial centre of the island, you will be able to shop for souvenirs, and experience the history and character of the town and perhaps take in the view of the Wind Turbines high on the hill. Visit the protected conservation area- Patriarch Wildlife Sanctuary, where you can observe native animals at close range. Then onto Wybalenna where you will learn of the historic significance of the area. Further down between two hills is the old cemetary; this site has been restored by the Island's National Heritage Trust and is now regarded as one of the most important sites in Australia. Continue your history lesson at Emita; the Furneaux Museum on Flinders Island showcases the history of the Bass Strait Islands. Stop at Port Davie, not far from Wybalenna. After a short walk you will reach the Mutton Bird rookery where you can view the colony from a mutton bird viewing platform. Other places of interest visited today are Allports Bay, Settlement Point and Cameron's Inlet Lagoon. Dine tonight at your motel.

Day 3 B, L, D

Flinders Island, Palana, Castle Rock, Sawyers Bay
Today set off for the small settlement of Palana at the northern end of the Island. In this secluded paradise set amongst sheltering trees, experience the beauty of the colourful lichen covered rocks and the long untouched stretch of sand that is Palana Beach. Flinders Island is widely known as a source for Topaz (locally called Killiecrankie diamonds). They occur in a wide range of colours and those found on the island are clear, ice-blue and pink-gold. A lucky fossicker might find a Killiecrankie diamond in the gravels of Killiecrannkie Bay or nearby Mines Creek. The better stones can be cut into sparkling gemstones.

Day 4 B, L, D

Flinders Island, Trousers Point, Walkers Hill and Furneaux Lookout
Today you will visit Trousers Point on a beautiful secluded site of Flinders Island. Here the spectacular views of the pristine clear waters and white sandy beaches, bordered by boulders covered with red lichen, make for one of the most popular photographic subjects on the whole island. The climb up to Walkers Hill Lookout is well worth the effort to view the forest valley. Another beautiful lookout is Furneaux Lookout, where you will view many of the Furneaux group of islands. Other Highlights include Big River Area (overlooks Cape Barren Island) and Yellow River.

Day 5 B

Flinders Island – Melbourne – Home
After breakfast, be transferred to the airport for your chartered flight to Essendon before making our way back to Tullamarine Airport for our flights home.

B=Breakfast, L=Lunch, D=Dinner
