Day 1

Home – Cooma
Departing the Hunter and Brisbane meet your fellow travellers at morning tea in Sydney. From here we take the Hume Highway south. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the historic town of Bungendore on the opposite side of Lake George. Mid afternoon we arrive in Cooma where we will stay overnight. Enjoy dinner in the restaurant with time to relax around the log fire in the lodge.

Day 2

Cooma – Power Stations – Albury
Today you will be as close as you can get to the headwaters of the Murray River. Traverse the Alpine Way from Cooma to Khancoban via Adaminaby, stopping at the interactive visitors centre at the Murray 2 Power Station. Here we will gain an understanding of how important the Snowy Hydro Scheme has been, and still is, to the area. Enjoy a picnic lunch as we journey beside the Upper Murray via the towns of Jingellic and Talgarno. This afternoon, arrive into Albury - a major regional city situated on the New South Wales side of the Murray River, with it’s twin city Wodonga situated on the Victorian side. Be enthralled as you embark on a town tour of these two cities hosted by a local guide.

Day 3

Albury – Wineries and Paddleboat Dinner – Echuca
The Rutherglen wine region is one of the oldest and most recognised wine regions in Australia—over 150 years of dedication and commitment, combined with a unique climate, have created incredibly complex, unique and world renowned wines. Enjoy a visit, view the art gallery and perhaps purchase a few gifts. Once back on board your coach, travel through the rich fruit growing areas via Cobram to Koonoomoo stopping at The Big Strawberry for lunch. This evening enjoy dinner on Echuca’s finest paddle steamer, the Pride of the Murray.

Day 4

Echuca Historic Port – Swan Hill
This morning learn more about the Port of Echuca on a guided tour and later spend some time wandering around this historic port. Continue to Barham where in the early years, many paddle steamers were built from wood logged in the area. Admire the lift bridge still in operation since 1904, an absolute engineering marvel. Visit The Border Flywheelers Museum set up to collect, restore, record and exhibit the historical development of farm tractors, machinery, engines and other artefacts used by the farming community along the Murray Darling Basin. This afternoon, travel back into Victoria, arriving in Swan Hill for our overnight stay. Tonight we will be a part of the Sound and Light Show at Swan Hill Pioneer Village.

Day 5

Swan Hill – Murray Darling Junction – Mildura
We start our day with a visit to the Swan Hill Pioneer Settlement situated on the picturesque banks of the Marraboor River. Embrace the past with a feeling that you have stepped back in time. Traverse the Murray Valley Highway, through predominately irrigated farmland enroute to Robinvale for lunch. Spend the afternoon border hoping as you travel via Wentworth in New South Wales, situated on the junction of the Darling and Murray Rivers before crossing the border back into Victoria and arriving in Mildura.

Day 6

Mildura – Luncheon Cruise – Renmark
Today join a three hour cruise along the Murray. Sit back, relax and take in the ever changing scenery along this magnificent river, enjoying an informative commentary, morning tea and lunch. Disembark and board your coach for the short journey to Renmark where we visit the innovatively designed McCormick Centre for the Environment, with its large interpretative model of the Murray Darling Basin.

Day 7

Renmark – Mannum
Today we travel to the township of Morgan, one of the busiest South Australian Murray River Ports where 12 metre high wharves were constructed exclusively for the paddle steamers which once plied the Murray-Darling River. Continue onto Blanchetown, home of Lock No.1 and Riverland Gateway and one of the first settlements in South Australia. Following lunch, enjoy a visit to the Swan Reach Museum, which holds a fascinating collection of memorabilia reflecting the early European history of this part of the Murray River.

Day 8

Mannum – Tailem Pioneer Village – Goolwa
Today enjoy a locally guided tour of Mannum, which includes a visit to the historic Dock Museum. Here you will learn more about how Mannum became the birthplace of the paddle steamer in the Murray Darling Basin. After lunch travel to Tailem Bend and see what life was like for the settlers of South Australia from 1860 - 1960 at the Old Tailem Pioneer Village, where shops are stocked with original items, packets and hardware. Travel via Wellington and Strathalbyn to Goolwa for our next two nights.

Day 9

Goolwa and Coorong Lunch Cruise
Enjoy a guided tour of Mundoo Island - a privately owned cattle station in the heart of the Coorong. During your tour you will learn of the fascinating history of Mundoo Island, the Old Mundoo Barrage, Coorong Barrages, Pt Blenkinsop Lighthouse, and the electric telegraph from Adelaide to Melbourne. Later board the Spirit of Coorong for a luncheon cruise viewing the Goolwa Barrage, the lock and Coorong National Park - at the mouth of the River Murray. View spectacular white sand dunes and birdlife. Disembark for a guided boardwalk through the sand dunes of the Younghusband Peninsula before cruising back to Goolwa. Later this afternoon relive childhood memories when you visit the River Dolls of Goolwa Doll Museum.

Day 10

Goolwa – McLaren Vale – Home
Before departing Goolwa learn more about this township situated at the mouth of the Murray River on Lake Alexandrina. Travel to McLaren Vale, one of Australia’s renowned wine and food regions – a lovely place for our lunch today. After lunch we will make our way to Adelaide Airport for your flight home.
