Through the Pilbara

Day 1 D

Home - Port Hedland
The vast expanse of our country becomes apparent today as our flight arrives into Port Hedland late afternoon. The growth of this port is due largely to the iron ore boom, making it one of the world’s largest mineral ports.

Day 2 B, L, D

Port Hedland - Karijini National Park
This morning awake to the amazing constructions that have made this town famous, from the huge port and iron ore loading facilities to the FIFO camps. We stop for lunch before travelling inland to Karijini National Park. The resort at Karijini is a unique experience and a two night stay allows time to enjoy the rugged natural outback surroundings in the Hamersley Ranges.

Day 3 B, L, D

Karijini National Park
Enjoy this amazing National Park with short walks to Hancock Gorge, Junction Pool Lookout, Oxer Lookout and Joffre Gorge. Return to our retreat for a sit down lunch on the verandah before an easy afternoon of touring, including a visit to the Karijini Park Information Centre and the lookout at Fortescue Falls.

Day 4 B, L, D

Karijini National Park - Dales Gorge - Newman
Today we will take time to discover more of the beautiful Karijini National Park. Explore Dales Gorge, Fortescue Falls and Circular Pool, with a range of walking tracks of varying lengths. Continue our journey through this remarkable Pilbara area to Newman, known for its native flora and fauna and rich natural resources, enjoying a picnic lunch along the way. This afternoon visit the massive BHP Mt Whaleback Mine which was established in 1968 and is the largest single pit open cut iron ore mine in the world. Please note: due to Workplace Health and Safety requirements, you will be required to wear a hat, comfortable enclosed footwear, a long sleeved shirt and long pants.

Day 5 B, L, D

Newman - Meekatharra
Depart Newman through the Hammersley Range in awe of the overturned landscapes of the mines and the machinery that seem so enormous in real life. Continue to Meekatharra—the largest township of the Murchison/East Gascoyne region and this afternoon, visit Peace Gorge, a fascinating area of granite formations.

Day 6 B, L, D

Meekatharra - Dalwallinu
Travel this morning to Mount Magnet, located at the hub of the Murchison region. Visit the Mount Magnet Mining and Pastoral Museum where you will gain some insight into the early pastoral and gold mining activities of the area. Continue on through the Wheatbelt region to Dalwallinu, a tiny oasis with paved streets and houses set in the midst of a sea of wheat.

Day 7 B, L, D

Dalwallinu - Perth
Travel via Moora to New Norcia, a town established in 1846 as a mission by the Benedictine Monks. After lunch and a tour of New Norcia Museum, Art Gallery and Information Centre, continue on via Bindoon, Muchea and Upper Swan before arriving in Perth.

Day 8 B

Perth - Home
Visit Kings Park before transferring to Perth Airport for your flight home.
