Traversing the volcanic trail, view Mt Elephant, an extinct volcano, before settling in for the next five nights in Hamilton, situated in the beautiful pastoral area of Victoria's western district.
Day 2
Umpherston Sunken Garden and Mt Gambier
Today we make our way towards the South Australian border via Dartmoor and Digby. Experience the relaxed riverside lifestyle while visiting Nelson, situated at the mouth of the Glenelg River, where we will see the abundant birdlife and spectacular limestone cliffs during our morning tea cruise. Cross the border to enjoy lunch in Mt Gambier and visit the unique and stunning Sunken Garden at Umpherston Sinkhole.

Next, we will take a locally guided tour of the Portland area. After lunch, visit the Maritime Discovery Centre complex on Portland's picturesque foreshore before returning to our motel to freshen up before dinner.

Penola and Casterton
Today we travel through very beautiful countryside via Wando Vale to Warrock Homestead where 33 of the 36 historic buildings have been classified "A" by the National Trust on this working grazing property. Step back in time as you visit Penola, where you can take time to stroll down Petticoat Lane. Enjoy lunch and a visit to the Mary MacKillop Interpretive Centre. Here you will see a comprehensive display about the dedication shown by Blessed Mary MacKillop and Fr Julian Tenison Woods to founding a Catholic education for isolated children. This afternoon, visit the small township of Casterton, the birthplace of the Australian Kelpie, where the town recognises this working dog with unique sculptures.
