Day 1
Home - Melbourne - Shepparton
After flying into Melbourne, enjoy lunch before travelling to Shepparton, a city located on the floodplain of the Goulburn River in northern Victoria. The city is found in one of Australia's Food Bowls and is famous for its surrounding food production of fruits, vegetables and cereals and lays within a rich dairy region. Learn of the history, art and culture of the region during a locally guided tour of the district. Settle into our overnight accommodation with some free time before dinner.
Day 2
Shepparton - Beechworth
After breakfast, travel to the Glenrowan Tourist Centre for an interactive theatrical production of the Ned Kelly story. Next we visit the stunning Holy Trinity Cathedral in Wangaratta for a guided tour before lunch. This afternoon, visit the Eldorado Museum which holds a collection that reflects mining, farming and social history of the area from 1850-1950. Continue on to Beechworth for our overnight stay.
Day 3
Beechworth - Harrietville
Today will start with a guided town tour of historic Beechworth which will highlight its interesting past. We then set off for Mount Beauty, located in the rich, fertile Kiewa Valley at the foot of Victoria's highest mountain, Mt Bogong. During a visit to the Mt Beauty Information Centre we will learn about the Hydro Electric Scheme which is an integral part of the area. Continue on to Falls Creek within the Alpine National Park, taking in the beauty of Victoria's High Country before settling into our accommodation in the beautiful town of Harrietville for the night.
Day 4
Harrietville - Lakes Entrance
The landscape changes from Alpine Ash to beautiful forests of Snow Gums and heathland as we climb to Mount Hotham, Victoria's highest alpine village. As we continue on through the old gold town of Omeo, the landscape changes again to lush grazing paddocks. With vistas out over the mountains and once the site of one of Victoria's richest goldfields, Omeo will quickly make an impression. Continuing on through Bruthen, a small rustic village overlooking the Tambo River, we arrive in Lakes Entrance where we will stay for the next two nights.
Day 5
Lakes Entrance
Gippsland Lakes consists of five main lakes, is fed by the waters of four major rivers, and is fringed by the Ninety Mile Beach. Covering over 400 square kilometres of lakes, rivers and lagoons, the system is the biggest expanse of inland waterways in the southern hemisphere. Today we will cruise around 30kms of pristine waterways into Lake King, spotting dolphins and viewing the wildlife on assorted islands aboard the ML Stormbird. Following lunch at the Metung Hotel, enjoy some free time to explore the area before reboarding our vessel. Continue around Rigby Island and Chinamans Creek before returning to your motel to freshen up for dinner.
Day 6
Lakes Entrance - Canberra - Home
Today we farewell Lakes Entrance, heading north via Cann River, joining the scenic Monaro Highway. Travel through heavily forested terrain as we journey towards the New South Wales border. Stop for lunch in Cooma before continuing on to Canberra Airport, ready to board your flight home.
