Day 1 L, D
Home - Mount Isa
Following a morning flight to Mount Isa, you will be greeted by your AAJ crew. After lunch, take a guided town tour of Mount Isa and visit Lake Moondarra. This evening (weather permitting), take in the view of Mount Isa by night from the lookout.
Day 2 B, L, D
Mount Isa - Lawn Hill
Travel through sparse woodland and open savannah plains to Lawn Hill National Park. Enjoy a picnic lunch along the way before arriving at Riversleigh/Miyumba, where we will meet our guide for a tour of the richest mammal fossil site in the world.

Day 3 B, L, D
Lawn Hill - Cruise Lawn Hill Gorge
This morning we’ll travel aboard Adels Grove’s state of the art, solar electric powered pontoon boat, cruising the tranquil Lawn Hill Creek winding its way through the breathtaking Lawn Hill Gorge. Experience some of the most breathtaking scenery in the park; see ancient sandstone and limestone that has been gradually stripped away over millions of years leaving behind rugged escarpment, gorges and rocky outcrops with sheer sandstone walls up to 60 metres high that drop into palm-filled creeks and permanent waterholes. There’ll be time to relax with a picnic lunch, enjoy a walk or even hire a canoe (own expense). There are several walks that are graded from easy to moderate for those who would like to see more of the park.

Lawn Hill - Camooweal
Our journey today will take us to the last Queensland town before the Queensland/Northern Territory border. Travel along the Gregory Downs Camooweal Road before joining the Barkly Highway, arriving in Camooweal. Once the centre for enormous cattle drives, we’ll visit the Camooweal Drovers Camp and Visitors Centre where the droving era of Australia is being preserved for future generations. Enjoy a guided tour where you will learn of the contribution of drovers to the development of the nation’s cattle industry.
Day 5 B, L, D
Camooweal - Tennant Creek
Travel through remote area, crossing the border into the Northern Territory and traversing the Barkly Tableland. Pass Avon Downs Cattle Station before stopping for lunch at Barkly Homestead. This afternoon, continue on to The Three Ways, a roadhouse located at the junction of the Barkly and Stuart Highways, before arriving into Tennant Creek.
Day 6 B, L, D
Enjoy morning tea and a guided tour of the museum and gallery at Nyinkka Nyunyu Cultural Centre. Next visit the Catholic Church where we will hear about its relocation from Pine Creek in the 1930s. After a picnic lunch, see the John Flynn Memorial and the Old Telegraph Station before returning to the motel.
Day 7 B, L, D
Tennant Creek - Alice Springs
Depart Tennant Creek and travel south, stopping at the eerie and majestic Aboriginal Dreaming site of Karlu Karlu, otherwise known as the Devils Marbles. Explore along the short self-guided walking trail which offers informative signage, and view the red rocks that range in size from 50cm to 6 metres wide, balancing precariously on top of one another. Continue on to Barrow Creek, which was the chosen site for an Overland Telegraph Morse Repeater Station, linking Australia to Europe and providing essential communication services. This afternoon travel via the tiny town of Ti-Tree before arriving into Alice Springs, which lies in the physical and spiritual heart of Australia’s Red Centre. It is surrounded on all sides by the jagged MacDonnell Ranges and straddles the usually dry Todd River.

Alice Springs - Home
Following breakfast this morning, enjoy a visit to Alice Springs Desert Park for an insight into the array of wildlife and flora of Australia’s desert environment before transferring to the airport for your flight home. Upon arrival, our staff will have your transfers arranged.
