The Hunter - Coonabarabran
This morning we begin making our way west, stopping at Merriwa for morning tea. We arrive at Coolah to enjoy lunch before continuing onto Coonabarabran. We'll visit the Crystal Kingdom and the Diprotodon Exhibition at the Coonabarabran Information Centre to see some of the world's rarest and most colourful Zeolite crystals and rare fossils that are not found anywhere else in the world.
This morning we head out to Tooraweenah to visit Emu Logic to experience a real working emu farm, meet the emus and enjoy a morning tea of quiches and muffins made from emu eggs. We continue via incredible Whitegum Lookout offering spectacular views of the volcanic landscape of Warrumbungle National Park. Next, we visit the Siding Spring Observatory where we'll enjoy lunch followed by a guided bus tour. This evening after dinner, you'll meet 'Donna the Astronomer' for a Milroy Night Sky talk followed by star gazing at Milroy Observatory.
Coonabarabran - Lightning Ridge
We depart Coonabarabran this morning, stopping at Coonamble for morning tea and arriving at Lightning Ridge in time for lunch. A local tour guide will board the coach for a tour of the town and surrounding opal fields with stories from the past and present, including an underground mine tour and a visit to Amigos Castle.
We collect our guide this morning for a full day touring a little further afield to Grawin, where we'll enjoy morning tea. Lunch will be at 'Glengarry Hilton'. Enjoy the chance for some quick fossicking where you might be lucky enough to turn up an opal.
Today we visit Bevan's Cactus Nursery which is the largest in the southern hemisphere with over 2,500 plants, then enjoy some free time and lunch (AOE) in the town centre. You might like to visit the famous John Murray Art Gallery or perhaps purchase a memento from the many shops on offer. Next we visit the famous 'Chambers of the Black Hand', an underground opal mine turned into a work of art.
Lightning Ridge - Bourke
We leave Lightning Ridge today, travelling to Brewarrina to view the Ancient Aboriginal Fish Traps just below the weir. Lunch will be enjoyed in the outback town followed by a visit to the Back O'Bourke Exhibition Centre. We then take a guided tour around this remote area by a local resident before we return to our motel.
Bourke - Dubbo
Our travels today take us through the town of Nyngan, the site of the Big Bogan, before arriving at Dubbo to have a light lunch before reboarding our coach for a guided tour of Taronga Western Plains Zoo.
Dubbo - The Hunter
After a leisurely breakfast we start our day with an interactive exploration of the world of the Royal Flying Doctor Service. There'll be time for morning tea (AOE) before we head to Merriwa RSL for lunch then making our way home.
