Day 1

Home - Hobart
On arrival in Hobart, you will be greeted by your Tasmanian Coach Captain. Travel to the historic village of Richmond where you may view the spire of Australia's oldest Catholic Church from beneath the arch of Australia's oldest stone bridge still in use. Wander the streets of this delightful Georgian town and discover the arts and crafts, bakeries and tea rooms. Visit Rosny Lookout for panoramic views of Hobart set against the majestic backdrop of the Wellington Range. Cross the Tasman Bridge to Hobart City and tour historic Battery Point, Salamanca Place and the vibrant waterfront before settling into our accommodation for the next four nights.

Day 2

Huon Valley Gardens
This morning we tour through the southern suburbs of Hobart passing the iconic Shot Tower, which is one of Tasmania's most historical industrial buildings. Enjoy the views of the D'Entrecasteaux Channel before stopping at Crawleigh Wood Garden, a wonderful two hectare garden nestled in the picturesque hills of Cygnet. The garden features lush woodland and rainforest with an eclectic variety of plants. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant prior to a visit to the Wooden Boat Centre. Here you will gain an understanding of the rich background of Australia's premier wooden boat training centre, as well as Franklin's maritime history. Take in the panoramic views of the city and estuary from Mt Nelson before returning to our hotel. Dinner tonight is at a nearby restaurant.

Day 3

Salamanca Markets - Free Time
As it is Saturday morning, take the opportunity to explore the famous Salamanca open-air Market with its bustle and buskers, colour and excitement. The remainder of the day is free to relax and visit some of Hobart's wonderful attractions at your own pace (own expense). You may choose to catch the ferry to MONA (Museum of Old and New Art), visit the Royal Botanic Gardens or perhaps wander the shops for some retail therapy. Meet back together this evening for dinner at our accommodation.

Day 4

Port Arthur
Travel via Sorell Causeway and Midway Point for our full day tour to Tasman Peninsula. Take in magnificent views from the lookout above picturesque Eaglehawk Neck and Pirates Bay before continuing to the Port Arthur Convict Settlement. Within the 40 hectares of landscaped grounds lies a rich history of Australia's convict past. Included in the entry is a guided walking tour, a short harbour cruise, access to the Visitor Centre and Interpretation Gallery as well as more than 30 buildings, ruins and restored gardens and houses. Explore as you wish before departing the historic site to tour beside Norfolk and Frederick Henry Bays back to Hobart.

Day 5

Hobart - Queenstown - Strahan
Departing Hobart this morning, tour the picturesque Derwent Valley through New Norfolk to climb the Central Plateau. Follow the Wild Way through trout lakes, mountains, gorges and the Wild Rivers National Park. Pass through Tarraleah Gorge, site of early hydro-electric installations and take a tour of "The Wall", a work in progress depicting the history of the region beautifully carved in Tasmanian timbers. Take a break at Derwent Bridge before a short walk into the delightful Nelson Falls. Cross Lake Burbury before descending through the ghost towns of Linda and Gormanston, to the copper mining town of Queenstown. Continue to the harbour side village of Strahan and our accommodation for the next two nights.

Day 6

Gordon River Cruise
This morning cruise the incomparable Gordon River into the heart of Tasmania's wilderness. Cross vast Macquarie Harbour, past Sarah Island, the worst convict settlement of all, and follow the Gordon through stands of ancient Huon pine, sassafras and myrtle rainforest to step ashore for a wilderness board-walk at Heritage Landing. Voyage to Hell's Gates, the aptly named harbour entrance where many early ships were destroyed by ferocious ocean swells. On return to Strahan, you will have free time to relax or explore the village including the Visitor Centre and Huon pine saw mill. This evening you have the option of seeing the "The Ship that Never Was" play (own expense). This play tells the dramatic and hilarious true story of The Great Escape from Sarah Island.

Day 7

Strahan - Zeehan - Cradle Mountain
Today we travel to the historic mining town of Zeehan to explore the fascinating museum and beautifully restored Gaiety Theatre. Continue north through rainforest and mineral rich mountains, crossing the Vale of Belvior and alpine cattle country to reach Cradle Mountain National Park. Board the shuttle bus to Dove Lake at the foot of the crags of Cradle Mountain and visit Waldheim, forest home of pioneer Gustav Weindorffer. Enjoy lunch and the visual delights of the Wilderness Gallery at the Cradle Mountain Hotel before visiting Devils at Cradle, where you will have the chance to get up close and personal with the Tasmanian Devil. Return to the Cradle Mountain Hotel and our overnight accommodation.

Day 8

Tamar Valley - Seahorses - Beaconsfield - Launceston
After breakfast travel to the town of Sheffield, to admire the wonderful outdoor art gallery of impressive murals. Continue along the Bass Highway to historic George Town, Australia's third oldest settlement. Pass through the Swiss style Grindelwald Village with its alpine style houses and unusual wood carvings before taking in the magnificent views from Brady's Lookout. Visit the Mine and Heritage Centre at Beaconsfield, site of the miraculous mine rescue before arriving into Tasmania's second largest city, Launceston. Visit the magnificent Cataract Gorge with its cliff-side gardens, peacocks, pools, suspension foot bridge and one of the longest single span chairlifts in the world. Please note the chairlift ride is optional and at your own expense.

Day 9

Woolmers - Longford - Evandale - Gourmet Sauce Co
Today we visit World Heritage Woolmers Estate. Wander around and soak up the essence of 19th century Tasmanian life on a once working farm estate and admire the rose garden, which represents one of the finest collections of historic roses in the Southern Hemisphere. Continue on to the nearby Tasmanian Gourmet Sauce Company and sample some of their products which appeal to a wide range of tastes from the chilli lover to the sweet tooth. Enjoy a gourmet BBQ lunch before spending time in the village of Evandale. Return to Launceston with time to relax before dinner at the hotel.

Day 10

Campbell Town - Freycinet - Hobart
Today we farewell Launceston and make our way down the Heritage Highway to Campbell Town to admire the wonderful tree carvings. Cross The Lake Leake Highway to visit Coles Bay and Freycinet National Park with its jagged pink granite peaks, crystal clear waters and white sandy beaches. This afternoon, admire the magnificent coastal views during the easy walk at Cape Tourville to the Lighthouse. Following the Tasman Highway, pass through Swansea and pause at the convict built, enigmatic Spiky Bridge. Follow the Prosser River valley through Buckland and Cambridge to cross the picturesque Derwent River into the city of Hobart nestled at the foot of Mount Wellington.

Day 11

Hobart - Home
Enjoy a relaxing morning around Hobart with some free time to grab those last minute souvenirs. We will then transfer to Hobart Airport for our flight home, where on arrival, your transfers will be arranged.
