Day 1
Home - Singleton
Our tour begins with our Queensland passengers flying into Newcastle Airport to join our crew and New South Wales passengers, to enjoy lunch together at Kurri Kurri. This afternoon, we will make our way to Singleton for our overnight say.
Day 2
Muswellbrook - Tamworth
Today we travel the scenic route through the foothills of the Great Dividing Range to Nundle, the historic gold-mining town which marks the beginning of The Fossickers Way. Visit Nundle Woollen Mill and be inspired by the kaleidoscope of yarns spun on vintage machinery. Next visit Mount Misery Café and Gold Mine Museum for lunch and a guided tour. You may choose to try your hand at a little gold panning during our visit; perhaps you'll be the lucky one to strike it rich! Continue on to Tamworth where we will settle into our accommodation for the next two nights.
Day 3
Tamworth
Tamworth boasts many beautiful heritage-listed buildings and offers spectacular views across the surrounding region. Visit the Tamworth Powerstation Museum, featuring displays that record the history of electricity along with items reflecting the impact of the development of electricity on modern society. You will also learn why the town earned the name as the "City of Light" in 1888. Purchase your own lunch before stopping at Calala Cottage, which was built by Phillip Gidley King in 1875.
Day 4
Tamworth - Inverell
After breakfast, continue along The Fossickers Way, stopping in the charming, small country town of Manilla. Visit the Heritage Museum before continuing on through Barraba, the mid-way point of this touring route. This afternoon, see the faithfully restored Art Deco Roxy Theatre and Greek Museum in Bingara. Travel through Warialda and past Cranky Rock, a jumble of giant boulders heaped in the most fantastic positions by a past volcanic upheaval, before settling in for our overnight stay in Inverell.
Day 5
Inverell - Glen Innes
This morning, enjoy a demonstration and talk at the Inverell Pioneer Village. There will also be opportunity to try fossicking at the wash pond in search of a famous Inverell Blue Sapphire. All equipment is provided, however, you may wish to bring a pair of work gloves. Later, browse the displays at Billabong Blue Sapphires at the Inverell Tourist Information Centre. They stock a unique and extensive range of quality jewellery and rough and cut sapphires which are sourced locally. Continue on to Glen Innes where we will check into our accommodation before dinner.
Day 6
Glen Innes - Home
We complete our journey along The Fossickers Way as we arrive in Emmaville, a quiet little country town with a population of around 300. Visit the Emmaville Mining Museum before crossing the border into Queensland, enroute to Warwick for lunch. This afternoon, arrive into Brisbane where our New South Wales passengers will board their flight back to Newcastle, and transfers will be arranged for our Queensland passengers.
