Day 1
Brisbane - Mackay - Broken River
After flying into Mackay, enjoy lunch before travelling into the Pioneer Valley. Visit Melba House, originally built in 1882 and was the home of Dame Nellie Melba for the first year of her married life. A beautiful array of photos, books and furniture of her time are on display. Continue on to the town of Eungella (pronounced yun-galah) to settle in for three nights at the Broken River Resort. This time of year can be quite cold in the early mornings and evenings, and the resort's log fireplace is sure to be a popular place to spend time with your fellow travellers.
Day 2
Eungella Free Day
As you wake to the crisp mountain air in this beautiful area, you may choose to take the opportunity to explore before breakfast. One of the highlights of the Eungella National Park area is the shy wild Platypus, and word has it, Broken River is the most reliable place to see these mammals. Today is at your leisure. Take advantage of the resort facilities, sit back and relax, enjoy a short stroll into the adjacent National Park or, for the more adventurous, take one of the renowned walking trails. A picnic style lunch will be provided for your lunch today. Dinner will be served at the resort and after dinner tonight, join a guide for a unique nocturnal walk.
Day 3
" Eungella
Today we will travel back down the range to visit Finch Hatton Gorge, home to some very rare and unique flora and fauna. Enjoy lunch at Eungella Chalet, where you will never tire of the stunning views. This afternoon offers the opportunity to enjoy some of the walking tracks in the area. Another must is the Eungella National Parks Tourist Information Office, located in the parklands across the river from the resort.
Day 4
Eungella - Rockhampton
This morning with bags packed it's time to farewell this pristine area as we travel via Homebush to Sarina, nestled in the foothills of the Connor's Ranges. Visit the Sarina Sugar Shed with its authentic miniature sugar processing machinery which has been sourced from all over the world - a truly unique experience. Spend some free time in Sarina where you will have the opportunity to purchase your own lunch and be sure to check out Buffy in the middle of the main street.
Day 5
Rockhampton - Maryborough
This morning, after breakfast, we bid Rockhampton farewell as we continue our travels south through Mount Larcom and Calliope before stopping in Miriam Vale for morning tea. Continue on to Childers for lunch before we visit Snakes Down Under. The park displays over 45 species and sub-species of Australian reptiles, amphibians and marsupials and includes a koala enclosure and a kangaroo reserve. Continue on to Maryborough for our overnight stay.
Day 6
Maryborough - Nambour - Brisbane
This morning we will visit Queens Park Precinct with its mature trees and boardwalks. See the War Memorial that highlights the Gallipoli Battle and the locals who were involved are mentioned by name. Visit 'The Story Bank' celebrating Mary Poppins and the unique connection Maryborough has with P.L. Travers and her life, family, influences on her writings and the retelling of her stories. Enjoy a catered morning tea before continuing on to Nambour for lunch. This afternoon sit back and relax as we make our way back to Brisbane, where on arrival, your crew will have your transfers arranged.
