Day 1
Brisbane - Ballina
Departing Brisbane, travel on our mini bus via Beaudesert and Innisplain where we join the Lions Road for a leisurely drive from Rathdowney to Kyogle via the picturesque Border Ranges National Park. The construction of the road was a community project initiated by the Kyogle Lions Club and provides visitors easy access to breathtaking views, spectacular scenery and the historically significant Border Loop Railway. Initially road authorities rejected the suggestion of a 30-kilometre shorter route to Brisbane, so the Kyogle and Beaudesert Lions Clubs joined forces to construct this now popular tourist route. Stop at the Border Loop Lookout to view the interstate railway line which spirals through the Border Ranges before enjoying some free time in Kyogle where you can purchase your own lunch. Continue along the Summerland Way to Casino, arriving in Ballina, a charming coastal town, for our two night stay.
Day 2
Markets - Museums - Ballina
This morning after breakfast, drive to the small, historical town of Bangalow for the Bangalow Markets. These community run markets were established in 1982 and are held in the local showgrounds. The huge Camphor Laurel and Fig trees provide shade as you wander the variety of market stalls, and you are sure to enjoy the many entertainers and buskers along with the delicious smells of the food stalls, so be sure to purchase your own morning tea and help support the local community groups. This afternoon, visit the Ballina Maritime Museum before going back in time at the perfect example of a Federation-style home with displays of household items from the 1900s at Crawford House Museum in Alstonville.
Day 3
Ballina - Brisbane
It's time to farewell Ballina as we make our way north to Newrybar, stopping at Zentveld's Coffee Plantation and Roastery for a Crop to Cup farm tour. Learn about the farm's coffee growing process and practices along with their environmental care in all stages of the processing, roasting and packaging of their products. Enjoy a tasting at their Coffee House while taking in the views of the coffee trees and farm from the verandah. It's then time to farewell the region and travel the coastal route to Tweed Heads for lunch. This afternoon we will make our way back to Brisbane, where your crew will have your transfers arranged.
