Mudgee Gulgong And Melbourne Cup

Day 1

Home - Merriwa - Mudgee
Our tour begins with our Queensland passengers flying from Brisbane to join our crew and New South Wales passengers from The Hunter. Travel the Golden Highway to Merriwa, enjoying a picnic lunch along the way. In Merriwa see the magnificent artwork depicted on the GrainCorp silo, which is part of the Australian Silo Art Trail. Continue on to Mudgee, set on the banks of the pretty Cudgegong River, and settle in to our accommodation.

Day 2

Melbourne Cup at Gooree Park Estate
After a leisurely start to the day, it's time to dress for the races. Ladies get out your fascinators and men 'don' your spring racing attire. Begin with a locally guided town tour of Mudgee followed by morning tea. We then make our way to Gooree Park Wines, one of Mudgee's historic properties who will host our Melbourne Cup experience. Gooree Park is a renowned, world-class thoroughbred breeding and training facility and is also well known to have the largest vineyards in the district, producing the 'thoroughbred of wines'. On arrival you will be greeted by our hosts for a race-day of entertainment, sweepstakes, thoroughbred parades and fashions on the field.

Day 3

Gulgong Memories
Today we travel to Gulgong, the 19th-century gold rush town and home to the famous writer, Henry Lawson and discover the history of the town with visits to the Henry Lawson Centre, Gulgong Holtermann Museum and the Pioneers Museum. Enjoy country hospitality with lunch provided by the local CWA before making our way back to Mudgee. A stop at Honey Haven will be a sweet delight before returning to our motel to freshen up for dinner.

Day 4

Mudgee Day
Today we truly get to see why this town has been named Australia's Top Tourism Town with Hall of Fame honours in the population greater than 5,000 category. The passion the locals have for their community and the desire they have to show off the region is admirable. Visit the local Art and Craft Cooperative, tucked away at the historic Railway Station and the Colonial Inn Museum located in the old West End Hotel, which was built in 1856. Enjoy lunch at the Mudgee Brewing Company with tours and tastings at Baker Williams Distillery and High Valley Cheese Factory. It is a day that is sure to delight your senses.

Day 5

Mudgee - Denman - Home
Our journey today takes us via the scenic Bylong Valley Way to Denman, a small town with the true charm of yesteryear. Enjoy a picnic lunch before making our way back to The Hunter, where our Queensland passengers will board their flight back to Brisbane and our crew will arrange transfers for our Hunter travellers.
