Day 1
Home - Bendigo
Your tour begins with a flight to Melbourne before travelling to Castlemaine for a visit to the Buda Historical House and Garden. Enjoy a locally guided town tour before continuing on to Bendigo for our overnight stay.
Day 2
Bendigo - Mildura
After breakfast, travel north to the tiny township of Nullawil for a cuppa and to see the town's silo artwork. Continue on to Red Cliffs, to enjoy lunch before stopping at the iconic Big Lizzie. Later, visit Woodsies Gem Shop before making our way to Mildura to settle in for the next three nights. After dinner, experience the Trail of Lights, a dazzling outdoor spectacle that transforms Lock Island into a glowing wonderland! Be sure to wear good walking shoes and to take a jacket in case the evening turns cool.
Day 3
Mungo National Park
Today a local guide will travel with us into Mungo National Park. Discover the dramatic landscape of the ancient dry lake basins and towering dunes formed from quartz and clay. Visit the Mungo Visitor Centre, the Walls of China boardwalk and enjoy a picnic lunch whilst here. This afternoon, return to our accommodation to freshen up before visiting the dynamic art installation 'The River Runs Through'. Powered by the sun, this artwork is transformed into a colourful light installation and celebrates the rich narrative of the Merbein Common - a floodplain reserve, nestled in a bend of the Murray River.
Day 4
Mildura Day and FOSO
This morning, a town tour will highlight the remarkable history surrounding the Chaffey Brothers and the establishment of the region as an irrigation colony. Later board a traditional paddlesteamer for a relaxing luncheon cruise, admiring the towering Red Gums that line the riverbank. Later, visit Trentham Estate for a wine tasting before returning to our motel for some free time. This evening, we make our way to Wentworth to see the Fibre Optic Symphony Orchestra (FOSO), an immersive artistic experience combining quintessential Australian imagery with cutting edge and musical composition.
Day 5
Mildura - Stawell
It's time to farewell our hosts before a visit to the Australian Inland Botanic Gardens, where the plantings showcase Australian and exotic species. Following morning tea, leave behind the Murray River region's lushness and enter the vast stretches of Mallee scrub, wheat fields, and saltbush plains, arriving in Stawell late afternoon for our overnight stay.
Day 6
Stawell - Melbourne - Home
The town of Stawell in country Victoria is mainly known for two things. The first, it's one of a few towns in Victoria retaining an active gold mining industry, and the other is the Stawell Gift - a professional foot race held each Easter long weekend. Take in the views over the Gold Mine and visit Central Park where the race is held each year, before continuing on to Melbourne Airport, ready for your flight home.
