Alpine Easter

Day 1

Home - Canberra - Jindabyne
After flying into Canberra, we will make our way along the Monaro Highway, traversing stunning alpine landscapes and passing through historic towns and undulating, scenic farming land. It is also the perfect season to witness the magnificent deciduous trees that are beginning to show their autumn colours. Stop in Cooma to see Centennial Park with its Avenue of Flags and to visit the Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre. Continue on to Jindabyne, to settle into our accommodation for the next five nights.

Day 2

Jindabyne and Kosciuszko National Park
Following breakfast, we will travel to Thredbo and take a ride on the Kosciuszko Express Chairlift. With your day pass you can choose to ride the chairlift taking in the fresh mountain air and the stunning vistas or alternatively, you can take Merritts Gondola to Merritts Mountain House. Please remember that Thredbo's weather is changeable, so be sure to dress accordingly for all weather conditions. Next enjoy a tasting at Wildbrumby Distilling and hear how a shared dream became a reality in creating the "Little Austrian Schnapps Hut". Continue on to Gaden Trout Hatchery for a picnic lunch by the river before a guided tour of the hatchery. Return to our accommodation for some time to freshen up before dinner.

Day 3

Jindabyne - Berridale
Today we make our way to the township of Berridale with its streets lined with poplar trees. Each Easter, the local Lions Club has been running an Easter Fair and it's a highlight for the region. The Fair is one of the major fundraisers the club for supporting the local and broader community with over 40 stalls. Purchase your own morning tea as you wander. After joining back together, we will travel through the undulating, treeless Monaro Plains to the historic town of Dalgety. After lunch, see some of the historic buildings and stop on the banks of the Snowy River and perhaps spot one of the local platypus or wombats who call the area home.

Day 4

Easter Sunday
Happy Easter! This morning there will be opportunity for you to attend an Easter church service if you wish. Alternatively, the morning is at your leisure. Late morning, we will take a scenic drive to Adaminaby, which was originally located nine kilometres further southwest. Admire many of the towns significant buildings which were relocated (sometimes brick by brick) to higher ground in 1956, prior to the original site being drowned by Lake Eucumbene as part of the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme. Lake Eucumbene is the largest lake in the Snowy Scheme, holding nine times the volume of water of Sydney Harbour. Stop for a picnic lunch before visiting the Snowy Scheme Museum.

Day 5

Jindabyne - Khancoban
This morning we visit the Snowy Region Visitors Centre before taking in the sweeping mountain views and unending vistas as we travel the magnificent Alpine Way. Linking Jindabyne in the southern reaches of Kosciuszko National Park to Khancoban, near the Victorian border, this route was once used as a drover's stock route and for the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme. Enjoy lunch in Khancoban before making our way back to Jindabyne for dinner.

Day 6

Jindabyne - Canberra- Home
Following an early breakfast, it's time to farewell the Snowy Mountains region and travel back to Canberra Airport, where you will board your flights back home.
