Day 1
Brisbane - Roma
Sit back and relax as we set out on this adventure and let outback Queensland come to life. Travel via Toowoomba and on to Miles for a visit to the Historical Village. Enjoy lunch followed by a guided tour where memories of yesteryear are sure to flood back as you stroll around the grounds. Continue on to Roma for our overnight stay.
Day 2
Roma - Quilpie
After breakfast, see Roma's clay Bicentennial Mural depicting the famous Harry Redford Cattle Duffing. We then make our way through Mitchell - the gateway to the outback, Charleville and Cooladdi before arriving into Boulder Opal Country, for our overnight stay in Quilpie.
Day 3
Quilpie - Birdsville
Today we travel to Windorah, located in the heart of the Channel Country, before joining the Birdsville Developmental Road. This afternoon, arrive in Birdsville, situated on the banks of the Diamantina River. The Birdsville Hotel is an Australian icon, built in 1884 and rich in history. Enjoy a drink in this famous pub, a true destination in itself, before checking into your airconditioned, ensuited room.
Day 4
Birdsville - Big Red
This morning we spend time exploring Birdsville. See the iconic Birdsville Race Track as well as the Power Station and Birdsville Cemetery. Enjoy lunch at the Birdsville Hotel before taking time to wander this small outback town at your leisure. Conditions permitting, we will also visit 'Big Red' this afternoon. Return to Birdsville for dinner.
Day 5
Birdsville - Toogunna Plains Station
Departing Birdsville, we will continue our journey, travelling back through Windorah and onto a 5th generation family-owned 130,000 acre sheep and cattle station, located between Quilpie and Eromanga. You are assured for a unique experience at Toogunna Plains Farmstay where our accommodation for the next two nights will be in beautifully presented ensuited huts and cabins nestled on a vast open plain in Outback Queensland.
Day 6
Toogunna Station - Eromanga
This morning after a hearty breakfast, embark on a station tour with our hosts including a freshly baked morning tea and a light lunch in the shearing shed. After lunch we will visit Eromanga, a small township sustained by surrounding pastoral properties, is also home to the Eromanga Oil and Gas Basin, Australia's largest dinosaur fossil discovery, and is the furthest town from the sea in Australia. See the 95-million-year-old Eromanga dinosaur during a visit to the Eromanga Natural History Museum before returning to Toogunna for a Paddock to Plate dinner.
Day 7
Toogunna Station - Longreach
After breakfast, we farewell our hosts, as we make our way to Longreach. You will have come to realise that it's a long way between towns in the outback, and our journey today reflects this. Stop for a cuppa on our way to Jundah, nestled safely above the floodplain of the Thomson River. After lunch, visit the Barcoo Historical Museum which offers a window into the early pioneering times of the district. This afternoon, traverse the Thomson Developmental Road as we make our way into Longreach where we will settle in for the next two nights.
Day 8
Longreach - Stockman's Hall of Fame - Qantas Museum
Enjoy a relaxed morning before visiting the Longreach School of Distance Education with one of the largest classrooms in the world. Observe the school in action and discover how technology has changed the way students learn. Next, uncover the story of Australian's National Airline at the Qantas Founders Museum and at the Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame and Outback Heritage Centre, wander through the five themed galleries, each depicting an important aspect of our pioneering history. Purchase your own morning tea and lunch today. This afternoon, we will embark on a Thomson River Sunset Cruise before enjoying Starlight's Spectacular Sound and Light Picture Show.
Day 9
Longreach - Emerald
This morning will be spent in Barcaldine which has earned the title of "Garden City of the West". Visit the Tree of Knowledge and The Australian Workers Heritage Centre, a tribute to all Australian working men and women. Pause for a picnic lunch in Alpha, before arriving into Emerald, once famous as a major sunflower producer and now home to the world's biggest replica Vincent van Gogh Sunflower painting.
Day 10
Emerald - Mundubbera
Our journey today takes us along the Capricorn Highway before joining the Leichardt Highway. Travel through some highly productive coal mining areas of Queensland's Central Highlands before enjoying lunch in Biloela. This afternoon, visit Monto to view the Water Tank, Street Art and Silo Art that has brought many tourists into the area. This afternoon, arrive in Mundubbera where we will check into our accommodation for our overnight stay.
Day 11
Mundubbera - Brisbane
After a hearty breakfast, we begin our journey home, stopping in Gayndah for morning tea. Continue on to Gympie for lunch before arriving back into Brisbane, where your crew will have your transfers arranged.
