Day 1
Home - Melbourne - Bright
After your flight to Melbourne, travel through magnificent contrasting scenery via Whittlesea to Yea for lunch. Journey through quaint little townships with tree lined streets and awe inspiring mountain top views, continuing on to the beautiful High Country of Bright. Unpack and settle into our accommodation for the next five nights.
Day 2
Mount Buffalo in Autumn
Today enjoy the spectacular alpine scenery, sheer cliffs and amazing rock formations all nestled amongst the forest of mountain ash and snow gums as you travel to Mt Buffalo. Following morning tea, head back to Eurobin and the Red Stag Deer and Emu Farm, where you will enjoy lunch and an informative historical talk. This afternoon, awaken your tastebuds with a visit to Milawa Cheese and Milawa Mustards.
Day 3
Bright and Myrtleford
Enjoy a slower start to the morning before a visit to The Bright Heritage Museum which is housed in the heritage listed old Bright Railway Station, for a tour of the collection which covers the railway, gold mining and social history of the area. Enjoy some free time in Bright; perhaps stroll along the banks of the Ovens River, visit some of Bright's attractions including the Bright Brewery, Billy Button Winery Cellar door, Bright Cheese, Bright Chocolate or the local art gallery. Purchase your own morning tea and lunch today at one of the many cafes and restaurants showcasing the local produce. This afternoon we will visit Red Ramia Trading, an enormous globe-trotter's emporium of furniture, pottery, homewares, rugs, exotic fabrics, kimonos, architectural and garden design features from marble statues to teakwood pavilions. Take a trip through Japan, Morocco and India as you wander through a mixture of hand picked antiques, artisan crafted goods and recycled items. Enjoy a wine tasting at a local winery and a stop to see the Phoenix Tree before returning to your motel for dinner.
Day 4
Tallangatta - Dartmouth - Yackandandah
Today we follow the Mitta Mitta River to the Dartmouth Alpine Retreat for lunch. The Alpine National Park is the largest in Victoria and protects the habitats of a variety of flora and fauna. Our afternoon journey takes us to the National Trust town of Yackandandah, one of Australia's prettiest villages, with avenues of English trees and featuring many well-preserved buildings. Enjoy some free time before returning to Bright.
Day 5
Mount Beauty - Falls Creek
Nestled at the foot of Mt Bogong, Victoria's highest peak, the village of Mt Beauty was originally built for the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme workers. Continue on to the Falls Creek area where you'll see incredible mountains, streams waterfalls and rivers, plus expansive meadows of wildflowers. At the Alpine Tourist Information Centre at Mt Beauty, learn about the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme. On our way back to Bright, stop at the junction of the Ovens River and Morses Creek for a photo.
Day 6
Bright - Melbourne - Home
Farewell the autumn colours of the Bright region, as we make our way to the Benalla Botanic Gardens for morning tea and free time to wander the garden where extensive lawns sweep down to Lake Benalla. Continue on towards Melbourne stopping for lunch before arriving at Melbourne Airport for your flight home.
