Day 1
Home - Canberra
After flying into Canberra, enjoy lunch before making our way into the foothills of the Brindabellas for a tour of one of Australia's premier properties, Lanyon Homestead. Experience the restored 1850s homestead, discover the convict-era outbuildings and explore the stunning gardens. Late afternoon, settle into our accommodation for the next five nights.
Day 2
Australian Institute of Sport - Cockington Green
Go behind the scenes at the Australian Institute of Sport before making our way to Cockington Green Gardens, a delightful and fascinating display of meticulously landscaped gardens with some little details hidden throughout that are sure to make you chuckle. This afternoon, visit the High Court of Australia for a guided tour of this 40 metre tall structure with its Great Hall and three courtrooms.
Day 3
Canberra Anzac Day
Transport this morning will be organised for those who would like to take part in the open air Dawn Service at the Australian War Memorial. Be sure to take a warm jacket. After breakfast together at the motel, we will take up our position to watch the Anzac Parade (reserved seating has been arranged). Following the conclusion of the service, the remainder of the day is yours to explore the Australian War Memorial, taking the opportunity to purchase your own lunch. You may choose to stay until closing where a moving Last Post Ceremony is held in the Commonwealth Courtyard and shares the story behind one of the names on the Roll of Honour.
Day 4
Embassy Tour - Australian Mint - Markets and Gallery
This morning drive past some of the unique and beautiful Embassies before a tour of the Royal Australian Mint. See where circulation coins, medals, medallions, seals and tokens are manufactured. Next we visit the Old Bus Depot Markets, where there will be time for your to purchase your own lunch. Later, we'll visit the National Portrait and Art Gallery, which houses more than 100,000 works of art and many worldclass art exhibitions, before returning to our motel to freshen up before dinner.
Day 5
National Museum - Parliament House
Our morning begins with a self guided tour of the Historic All Saints Church. Originally built in the mid 1800s as the railway station at Rookwood Cemetery in Sydney, it was painstakingly dismantled and transported stone by stone to Canberra where it was erected in 1958. Here you will see the stained glass window dedicated to those of the parish and district who gave their lives in World War II. Continue on to the National Museum of Australia where there will be time to wander the displays before making our way into the city centre to purchase your own lunch. This afternoon we will take a guided tour of Parliament House - a symbol of Australian democracy and a focal point of Canberra.
Day 6
Canberra - Home
After breakfast it's time to farewell our hosts before a visit to the Museum of Democracy at Old Parliament House. Be inspired by amazing real life stories of ordinary people who have fought to shape today's society. We will then transfer to Canberra Airport, where you will check in ready for your flight home.
