Day 1
Brisbane - Miles
Sit back and relax as we travel along the Warrego Highway through the Lockyer Valley and on to the Darling Downs, stopping for morning tea along the way. Following lunch, continue on to Miles for a visit to the Miles Historical Village Museum prior to checking into our overnight accommodation.
Day 2
Miles - Carnarvon Gorge
After breakfast, travel via Roma - where they say the country meets the outback, through Injune and on to Carnarvon Gorge National Park. Enjoy a picnic lunch before spending time at the Visitor Centre to learn about the Gorge, its landscape, plants, animal and cultural history. Later, settle into our safari cabins at the Wilderness Lodge for the next three nights. Surrounded by green lawns and shaded by ancient macrozamias and tall gums, each unique timber and canvas safari cabin has a carpeted floor and ensuite. The cabins are spacious and airy, with screened windows, fridge, solid pine furniture, heaters, tea and coffee facilities and a shaded timber deck with easy chairs. At night, there will be opportunity to star gaze with an unimpeded view of the southern skies. Be sure to bring a torch to help guide you around at night.
Day 3
Carnarvon Gorge
Carnarvon Gorge is a sandstone wilderness in the middle of Outback Queensland and a walking and hiking haven for keen physically fit adventurers. Millions of years in the making, Carnarvon Gorge walks are as varied as the landscape. Traverse rugged cliffs, encounter ancient cycads and ferns, cool off in the turquoise swimming holes and marvel at some outstanding Indigenous sites. This morning you can choose to join a half day guided walk to the Moss Garden - a natural display of ferns feeding on water seeping from the mossy cliffs. Admire the Aboriginal rock art at the Art Gallery, walk to the large natural swimming pool or just enjoy time to relax. Please note that all walks within the park require a reasonable level of fitness and good mobility.
Day 4
Carnarvon Gorge
Wake to a dawn chorus from the melodic birdlife and watch grey and pretty-faced wallabies graze. Feeling relaxed in this oasis, today is set aside to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. Enjoy another day at leisure in Carnarvon Gorge National Park - the choice is yours; take it easy around the lodge or enjoy some of the medium or shorter walks available.
Day 5
Carnarvon Gorge - Chinchilla
Today we bid farewell to this beautiful pristine National Park and travel to Roma, where following lunch, we will learn of the early history and discovery of oil, water and gas at the Big Rig display. This afternoon, continue on to Chinchilla, known as the melon capital of Australia, to settle in for our overnight stay.
Day 6
Chinchilla - Brisbane
After breakfast, our journey takes us through the diverse agricultural region known as 'The Downs'. Pass through Warra and Dalby before stopping in Oakey for morning tea. Continue into the Lockyer Valley, stopping for lunch at Plainland. This afternoon, on arrival back into Brisbane, our crew will have your transfers arranged.
Note:
Please note a reasonable level of fitness is required for this tour. Mobility aids are not suitable in the areas we are visiting, and you must be able to negotiate rocky, uneven ground and walk up inclines unassisted.
