Day 1
Brisbane - Armidale
Today we travel south via the Pacific Highway, crossing the border for a cuppa beside the Tweed River. Continue on to Grafton for some free time to purchase your own lunch prior to travelling the very scenic route from Grafton to Armidale, stopping at Ebor Falls with its stunning waterfall views. This afternoon, arrive in Armidale to settle in to our accommodation for the next four nights.
Day 2
Armidale - Guyra - Glen Innes
This morning we start with a guided tour of two of Armidale's spectacular heritage listed cathedrals. Next, visit Guyra, the highest town in the New England High Country, at 1330m above sea level. We then travel to the Celtic capital of Australia - Glen Innes. Here a local guide will explain the significance of the Standing Stones and show us the attractive main street of the town where the façades of the buildings have been beautifully preserved. This afternoon return to Armidale via Ben Lomond, the highest point on the Australian railway line.
Day 3
Armidale - Uralla - Gostwyck
The Autumn colours will be in full show this morning as a local guide comes onboard to share their love and passion for this city. Next stop will be at the historic Saumarez Homestead, donated to the National Trust by the White family. This historic home shows how some of the early New England graziers lived, complete with traditional English gardens, trees and shrubs. Continue on to Uralla for free time to purchase your own lunch before a tour of Australia's oldest working foundry, now the Uralla Foundry Museum, where you will see patterns of the renowned New England Iron Lace. Visit the Anglican Church at Gostwyck, covered in Virginia Creeper, with its striking red tones.
Day 4
Armidale - Dorrigo
Today we head east along Waterfall Way towards Wollomombi Falls, part of the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park. From the lookout, spectacular views of the gorge can be seen. Continue on to Dorrigo and visit Dangar falls, a beautiful 30 metre cascading waterfall set amidst scenic agricultural and dairy farmland. Next we visit the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre and skywalk lookout. A 70 metre boardwalk perched right on the escarpment which offers views across the Bellinger Valley towards the coast, with deep valleys and gorges blanketed in a rich rainforest. Enjoy lunch in the café before a tour of the historic Hillgrove Museum.
Day 5
Armidale - Brisbane
After saying goodbye to this city of colour, our journey today follows the New England Highway off the Tablelands. Stop in Tenterfield for a cuppa before crossing back into Queensland and travelling through the Granite Belt for lunch. Continue down Cunninghams Gap back to Brisbane where your transfers home will be arranged.
